Better Than One

I'm not so certain that two houses are better than one, especially when they occupy the same site, but I have always been intrigued by the pair of houses designed by Venturi Scott Brown on Nantucket (Trubek and Wislocki houses). The earlier courtyard houses have been set aside temporarily because of their complexity and size: quite possibly we do not require so much space. As for the utility of the courts for the dogs, Marco and Lucca have made it clear - they are house dogs. So here is a single house, articulated as two even smaller houses (pavilions would be too precious a term). The division of function is straightforward. One segment is public, the other is private. The area is approximately 1000 square feet, including the entry connector segment.
