The Influence of OZ
Ever since I first saw photographs of the outback houses of Australian architect Glenn Murcutt, I'd been smitten. The houses were perfect, and certainly perfect for their setting. But I've always been drawn to that particular sort of dry and open landscape - my idea of a perfect place. Back in 1988, obviously dissatisfied with our then current house, I took a stab at a linear scheme that was both small and something that we could, if we had to, build ourselves. Looking at it this afternoon I think I'd try to reduce the number piers by half, and perhaps revisit the fenestration layout slightly. And I would double the number of dachshunds sunning themselves on the deck. Click on each image for an enlarged version.
