1988 Courtyard

I'm still in the throes of unpacking books and papers brought to Connecticut from Massachusetts. "Throes" implies some sort of activity. Perhaps I should instead say that I am languishing among accumulated books and papers. Today I unearthed a sketch done in 1988, and clearly courtyard houses were on the table. This house is smaller, with a court open to a larger expanse. Nonetheless it does have some relevance, particularly should we opt for a smaller, weekend retreat. In 1988 we were living in a house whose "master" bedroom was just large enough for queen size bed and narrow passage to get to a closet. Clearly we thought that was sufficient and replicated it in this house. But today, sleeping with two dachshunds with impulses toward imperialist expansion, that would be an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement. Click on the image for an enlarged version.
